Anvil – logo and UI

Anvil is a federated forge client web app and aims to be to GitHub, what Mastodon is to Twitter. It even uses the same protocol: ForgeFed – an ActivityPub extension!

Anvil has a special but very simple symbol. It willfully drags the actual idea behind the forging tool into the abstract world of typography, constructing a memorable icon without following the typical metal silhouette:

It may be simple, but comes with a neat twist and a nice extra feature.

The feature is its symbol, which can be extended to the full logo by just adding missing letters. The kerning is fine-tuned to integrate the inverted A in the circle with the rest of the logotype:

The tiny twist is a subtle but noticeable detail: it's the way the horizontal bar melds onto the letter 'A'. Every other edge in the logo is sharp.
