About libONDA

ONDAs headquarters are located very close to the Black Forest in the city of Freiburg. That is where France, Switzerland and Germany meet, right in the middle of Europe.

The project was born out of the motivation to find a new way of dealing with a known problem in FOSS: contributing design.

Free Software contributor skills have a strong natural bias towards coding, so many projects struggle with developing or maintaining their brands. Since fundamental design tasks don't come up that often, designers are rarely found among long-time contributors lucky enough to be backed by community trust that would allow to steer consequential decisions. That is why projects often resort to desperate methods like "Logo Contests" or "Design by Committee" which may yield some results, but easily chase away the contributors with higher standards and more ambitious working methods in mind.

ONDA offers FOSS projects a chance to meet at eye level, united by shared values, based on mutual trust, and invites teamwork to shape long-lasting brands.

In other words, libONDA contributes brand design via external, specialized support. Just like companies hire design agencies – or – like coders integrate code libraries ;)

Mission:

Explore awesome FOSS projects identities in a team effort and design fitting brands.

Vision:

Confident FOSS projects making a solid public appearance and a positive impact on society.

Values:

Free Software Freedoms, using free tools, inclusiveness, no AI.

Disclaimer: projects before 2026 were included in hindsight and are not the direct result of ONDA, but the efforts of people behind ONDA. The library runs on one slow single core CPU, so please adjust your performance expectations accordingly.
